Riding on the subway every day might seem like it’d get old, but artist Ben Rubin keeps a fresh perspective with his imaginative series Subway Doodle. Riding on the subway every day might seem like it’d get old, but artist Ben Rubin keeps a fresh perspective with his imaginative series Subway Doodle. The ongoing project features snapshots of New York City train cars and passengers with a fantastical twist—Rubin adds his own characters the scenes as they “interact” with real-world surroundings in both amusing and mischievous ways.

The larger-than-life creatures hang on sleepy riders, sneak sips of coffee, and of course, are similarly engrossed in their phones.
Ben Rubin started his subway graffiti project with his iPad and a light suit. This project will not violate the law of destroying the city's appearance at all. As a digression, I sincerely hope that Ben’s creation can be combined with Pokemon Go, Don't you think it's more interesting to fight monsters like this?

Subway Doodle begins while Rubin is en route to a destination—it’s how the series was first born. “I started sketching on my iPad during my commute just to pass the time.

Ben used the snapshot function of the iPad to capture the scene of the New York subway in the dreamlike fantasy world, and then combined the virtual and the real one, presenting a strange, interesting, and smiling picture.

One day I took a picture with my iPad on the train and drew over the picture,” he explained to Odyssey. “It was fun so I did another. And another. Then it just kind of continued from there.”

You can vaguely feel that some pictures touch the dark side of your heart, and some are just showing the tired and boring ordinary life of the real little people, you and I, sighing at a certain sparkling moment.

At the beginning of the creation of subway graffiti, I just wanted to pass the long commute time after getting off work. I know you all brought K books, but Ben’s experiment did bring some fun. Sometimes Only inside and outside the walls can have the coherence of the story scene.

Years after beginning the project, Rubin continues to regularly post illustrations. Follow his Instagram to what’s lurking in the underground as well as on the streets of the Big Apple.

After starting this graffiti project, Ben will regularly publish his creations on the Internet. Through Ben's eyes, we will lurk in the underground of the Big Apple in New York together, and experience the inner fantasy adventure time after time.
